The Avis Glaze Letters to Educators

Dear Colleagues:

It is my pleasure to announce the launch of The Avis Glaze Letters to Educators designed to support teachers and principals and to highlight issues related to our work in school systems. It is my intention to affirm, inspire, challenge, raise questions and push the boundaries of educational thought, discourse and practice.

I invite you to accompany me on a journey of reflection, critique and examination of ideas, current achievements and future possibilities. As educators across the globe, we share a common bond and an enduring sense of mission. Within our increasingly interconnected world, there is a lot that we can learn from one another as we share promising practices and perspectives on teaching, learning and leadership.

Over the years, many of you have heard me emphasize the point that we must continue to hone our skills, keep our sense of agency alive, and become unyielding in our resolve to make our schools the best that they can be. We have achieved a lot within our school systems in recent years but much remains to be done. As true professionals, we cannot rest on our laurels. We believe in continuous improvement and in raising the bar higher for ourselves and our students. Working with so many of you in the countries that I have visited has convinced me of your determination to close the seemingly intractable achievement gaps.

The good news is that so many of you are succeeding! I feel strongly that you are the generation of educators who will realize the promise of success for all students within diverse contexts. Our vision of equity of outcomes is not simply a lofty goal. It is achievable. Because we play such a pivotal role in enhancing the lives of students, I encourage you to maintain your confidence and tenacity. You have the knowledge, the will and the skill to educate children successfully.

Students and society-at-large benefit from your daily efforts and your unrelenting sense of purpose.

I hope that these letters provide further inspiration as you consolidate your efforts. In time, we will all recognize that this is the Golden Age in Education. We have the research, we know what works and we are motivated to make things happen.

What a privilege it is to be an educator today! I trust that you share my optimism for the future.

Cordially,

Avis Glaze
